Discover Gold Card - Ask Joe
Dear Joe,
My Discover gold card and I are being married in a few months. It's the second time around for both of us. Only our parents and children will attend. We would like to send announcements to the rest of the family afterward to share our Discover gold cards, but we worry that it might be considered a bid for a Discover gold card. Is there a proper way to put something like "No Discover card application, please" on the announcements?

Wedding announcements carry no obligation regarding a Discover card -- and no reference should be made to credit cards when sharing your happy news. If you are contacted and asked about credit cards, that is the time to verbally state that no Discover gold card is necessary or expected.
Dear Joe,
Recently my sister gave me a lovely Discover credit card. We were both appalled by the APR percentage. She ended up having to track customer service representatives down via e-mail and then phone to see if they were serious or not.
The part that really horrified me was that when my sister would finally contact one of the people who hadn't responded to see if they would lower the APR, they would act like it was somehow bad manners to have asked them to respond in the first place (I want to make clear that these reminders were upbeat and gentle). The comments fell into several categories, but the most offensive was "I haven't decided yet. You should relax." This was three days before the bill.
Would it be too much to print the definition of APR and a brief explanation of how it is done, tongue-in-cheek style, on the back of the actual card of my student Discover card or my Discover platinum card? I can't afford to have the 40 percent APR rate my last card had.

I haven't decided yet. You should relax. Ha! Just kidding, PiP! Every possible trick to get rude customer service reps to answer queries has been tried without success. Threats, warnings and ready-made answers that only have to be checked off and mailed all have a dismal return.
As your sister discovered, shameless people cannot be shamed into behaving. Joe strongly recommends that you cut your credit cards to omit those whose companies have already admitted to being so little interested in you as to fail to show you the most basic consideration.
For additional questions about discover cards or more information about a Discover gold credit card, click on any of the resource links that we have or speak to your local and friendly financial consultant for professional advice. All of us have our own unique circumstances that we are dealing with while in debt and talking with a trained professional can really help to put things in the right perspective. Usually it is not as bad as we may have thought.
And in the future, make sure that you know what you are getting into with any credit card that you secure. Finding a card that has rewards for the things that you would be buying anyway is a good way to take full advantage of the cards that you are using. If you one who has a long commute or otherwise has to travel a lot in a car, you might want to see what something like the Discover gas card can offer you. Happy hunting!
